Adipose tissue is a widely used tissue in the clinical-transplant filed as it represents a source of stem cells able to stimulate tissue regeneration.
Measures
The amount of adipose tissue stored at the Emilia Romagna regional Skin Bank for each patient ranges from 5 to 8 sterile bags with 5-7 ml of adipose tissue each. Adipose tissue distributed by Emilia Romagna regional Skin Bank is used only for autologous applications
Clinical use
For its regenerative properties, adipose tissue finds wide clinical application in the fields of regenerative and reconstructive medicine such as orthopedics, breast surgery, plastic surgery, dermatology, general surgery, vulnology and otolaryngology

Biological characteristics
The Amniotic Membrane derived from donors after elective cesarean section is composed by an epidermal layer and an underlying connective tissue able to confer an high tensile strength. It is a source of various biologically active factors involved in tissue regeneration and wound healing. The amniotic membrane also shows anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties in addition to provide a structural support for growth and cell migration.
Size
The Amniotic Membrane distributed by Skin Bank ERR can have different size ranging from 4 to 12 cm in length and 3 to 8 cm in width.
Clinical Use
The Amniotic Membrane is widely used in ophthalmology and dermatology. It is distributed by Skin Bank ERR in the dermatological field for the treatment of burns and/or non-healing wounds.
Public and private structures operating in the sector of health in the Emilia Romagna region can make a request of skin tissue at the Skin Bank ERR after an agreement with the “AUSL della Romagna”. The request of cutaneous tissue can also be performed by structures operating in the sector of health distributed on the national territory if:
- The structure does not have a Skin Bank in its region
- The reference regional Skin Bank of the structure does not have the amount of tissue required to satisfy its clinical needs at the time of the request and it authorizes tissue distribution from other Skin Banks.
However, an agreement between the structure and “AUSL della Romagna” is required for clinical distribution of skin tissue.
The distribution of cutaneous tissue for clinical purposes is carried out by the Skin Bank ERR only after that the request of skin tissue is sent by fax at the number 0547/394327 at least 24 hours before its clinical use, using the specific form for Skin and De-epidermized dermis or Decellularized Dermis.
It is also required a telephone contact with the Biologists of Skin Bank in order to request tissue availability. The distribution of cutaneous tissue is NOT ensured without a previous telephone contact.
