Homologous skin
Biological characteristics
The homologous skin derived from donors has a thickness ranging from 0.6 to 0.8 mm and it is composed by epidermal layers and a thin underlying dermal layer.
Size
The homologous skin distributed by Skin Bank ERR can have different size ranging from 12 to 80 cm in length and 3 to 7 cm in width.
Clinical Use
The homologous skin is considered the life-saving in extensive burns and a valid therapeutic option for the treatment of deep burns, chronic ulcers, vascular, traumatic, non-healing wounds, full-thickness loss of substance and osteo-articular injuries of tendon. It decreases the threshold of pain and bacterial contamination and promotes the formation of granulation tissue resulting in spontaneous re-epithelialization in a high percentage of clinical cases.
