Research Activity

    • Scientific design and realization of new methodologies related to the preservation of Decellularized Dermis: the freeze-drying
The project is aimed to realize new methods for the storage of Decellularized dermis produced at Skin Bank ERR. In particular, the project aims to develop a method for the freeze-drying of the Decellularized dermis, able to maintain the structural characteristics of tissue and its storage at room temperature under sterile conditions.

    • Scientific design and realization of a new method for the decellularization of rotator cuff and its clinical applications in the field of Regenerative Medicine
The project aims to develop a new method for the decellularization of the rotator cuff of the shoulder derived from human donors, in order to obtain a cell-free scaffold with the same anatomical-structural characteristics of the injured tissue. In a second step, we will proceed to the certification of suitability use in the orthopedic field according to current regulations.

    • Scientific design and realization of cellular therapies by in vitro enhancement of cell cultures and their use for the bioengineering of acellular dermal matrices.
The project aims to develop dermo-epidermal skin substitutes for the treatment of burned patients. The project includes an initial phase to isolate and enhance primary cell cultures, such as keratinocytes and fibroblasts, followed by cellular repopulation of Decellularized Dermis produced at Skin Bank ERR.

    • Clinical application of homologous Decellularized Dermis for the treatment of full-thickness skin wounds: tissue remodeling and clinical follow-up
The project aims to evaluate tissue remodeling and clinical follow-up in patients affected by full-thickness skin wounds with osteo-tendineous exposure treated with Decellularized Dermis produced by Skin Bank ERR.

    • Clinical application of homologous Decellularized Dermis for the treatment of abdominal wall defects: tissue remodeling and clinical follow-up
The project aims to evaluate tissue remodeling and clinical follow-up in patients affected by abdominal wall defects treated with the Decellularized Dermis produced by Skin Bank ERR.

    • Realization of a system for cellular enrichment of adipose tissue to improve its clinical efficacy after autologous grafting
The project aims to develop a system for cellular enrichment of adipose tissue during plastic and reconstructive surgical operation, in order to improve the engraftment and, consequently, the clinical efficectiveness of autologous fat.

    • In vitro biological characterization of human adipose tissue after its harvesting using different techniques of collection.
The project aims to perform an in vitro biological characterization of adipose tissue collected by different techniques, in order to evaluate its clinical efficacy after autologous fat grafting.

    • Scientific design and realization of a new method for the decellularization of human foreskin and its clinical application in the field of Regenerative Medicine
The project aims to develop a new method for the decellularization of human foreskins, in order to obtain a scaffold "cell-free" with the same anatomical-structural characteristics of the damaged/removed tissue. In a second step, we will proceed to the certification of suitability of the biological scaffold obtained for its clinical use, according to current regulations.

    • Scientific design and realization of new methods for the sterilization of skin tissue
The project aims to assess the effectiveness of sterilization induced by atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge on the contaminated homologous skin tissue ensuring the maintenance of its morphological and structural characteristics.

    • Scientific design and realization of new methods for the sterilization of skin wounds
The project aims to assess the effectiveness of sterilization induced by low power atmospheric pressure inductively coupled plasma source on contaminated skin wounds. To this aim, experimental models of cutaneous wounds will be used for biological characterization of tissue after the treatment.

    • Scientific design and realization of a 3D model of tumoral tissue and its use in Radiobiology and Pharmacology
The project is aimed to develop a 3D model of tumoral tissue using the Decellularized dermis, produced at Skin Bank ERR, as a biological scaffold for the growth of primary culture of melanoma cells, in order to identify their sensitivity/resistance to radiological and/or pharmacological treatments.

    • Evaluation of the biological effectiveness of innovative instruments and their use in the clinical field
The Skin Bank ERR provides a biological evaluation of innovative equipment used in the clinical field.

    • Biological characterization of in vitro human tissues commissioned by pharmaceutical companies
The Skin Bank ERR offers in vitro biological characterization of human tissues commissioned by pharmaceutical companies.
